Dressing up for the Oberon disco at the A.R.T.

or a fashion lover like me, there's nothing more satisfying than the opportunity to get dressed up, especially when the occasion allows for an over-the-top ensemble, that can be pulled together in the nick of time. So when a friend invited me to a performance of the A.R.T's The Donkey Show at the last minute my head started to spin like a sparkling disco ball. Jeans and a cute top were not going to cut it.
The show goes on around the audience, which is invited to dance, so I was certainly dressing the part. FYI, spring for dance-floor tickets ($35) and you'll feel like you've stepped back in time, to the days of hot pants and Halston.
Sequins, slinky jumpsuits, and sky-high platforms ... These staples of the late '70s and early '80s have always appealed to me, but there is rarely an opportunity to wear them out in public.
Steamy weather called for Theory's satin tuxedo shorts and a pair of shimmery gold stacked-heel sandals. On top I added a sheer spangled blouse, picked up for $5 at Oona's. Worn backwards and unbuttoned, it was transformed from matronly to glam. I don't want to give too much away, but let's just say that I was still wearing many more layers than the go-go dancers.
My boyfriend said I looked like Cher, which I took as a compliment, because in the end, not only did I feel like I was at Studio 54, but I looked like I belonged there, too.
