he other night I walked past Moxie on Charles Street. The shop was closed, but a shimmery glint of gold caught my eye. I fall for anything metallic. Gold might even be my favorite color. As I peered inside at coils of delicate leather, I noticed an exposed zipper that added a hint of toughness. Best of all was the smooth slanted heel. I can't tell you how many times I've been left prancing on my tiptoes after an ill-fated encounter with an uneven set of bricks or evil subway grate. Wedges and I get along very well.
I looked closer, hoping for a glimpse of the label. The lettering was unmistakable: Loeffler Randall. I was in trouble. I've amassed a small stack of this company's signature pink boxes in the seasons since Jessie Randall (from Worcester), after years of searching for the perfect shoe, launched the line. I was exposed to the first collection at Louis Boston a few years ago; scoring a pair of black Elka boots at the 50 percent-off sale was an excellent introduction to the brand.
I considered the Carlie Mignon Twist a splurge, but also a must have. Per a self-imposed limit of one pair of pricey shoes a season, it was a purchase I considered carefully. My mind drifted, as it usually does, to the cost per wear. I would wear them a few times a week. These are shoes that will take me from work to the weekend. I can wear them to an afternoon wedding, but they'll also look fab strolling Commercial Street in Provincetown. I think I deserve them. Don't you?
The sandals were still tempting me a few days later. It couldn't hurt to try them on. I called the shop and found out there was one pair left in my size. It was meant to be.

It doesn't get better then a fashion show, on a boat! Synergy's Style Cruise on May 14 is sure to be the most stylish boat party of the season.
The Beacon Hill Hotel & Bistro hosts "Sparkle III," an afternoon of fashion, food, and fun on Sunday May 30. All of your favorite Charles Street boutiques will band together with local tastemakers for a charity fashion show benefiting Rosie's Place. Last year the event sold out quickly, so be sure to reserve your place by calling 617.723.7575.
