The real birthplace of an author you thought was from somewhere else

Birthplace of Edgar Allan Poe

dgar Allan Poe was born in Boston, the son of itinerant actors, and wrote his first book here. But he never liked the city, often lied about his birthplace, sharply criticized the Boston publishing elite (he called Bostonians “Frogpondians”), and is far more widely associated with Baltimore, which makes an industry of Poe. No matter; you can find Edgar Allan Poe’s true Boston birthplace marked with a plaque on Boylston Street at what is now called Edgar Allan Poe Way. Marcus

Shhhh! Boston city didn’t like Poe, either, at the
time, but in 2009 dedicated a square to him at Charles and Boylston streets, near his birthplace.

Shhh who knew

In 1827, Edgar Allan Poe was posted to Fort Independence in South Boston as an army private and based his story "The Cask of Amontillado" on a real-life incident that happened there.
