O
ne of the only places of worship in the world decorated entirely by the Tiffany Glass and Decorating Company, the Church of the Covenant is an architectural and artistic landmark. You have to go inside (by appointment or during Sunday services) to find the hidden gem, however: the awe-inspiring and historic Sanctuary Lantern. Depicting the angels of the seven Christian churches John addresses in his Book of Revelation, the lantern is adorned with plaster statuary, bronze filigree, and dangling glass balls. It’s an imposing and often overlooked centerpiece in an interior that shimmers with reds and blues from Tiffany glass mosaics. Moravek

The Church of the Covenant was underwritten largely by congregant Benjamin Bates, who made his fortune selling military uniforms during the Civil War. Bates College is named for him.
