Garden Party
A secret (beer) garden for the in-the-know
C
harlies Kitchen is more of a landmark than a secret. But we still know something about it most people don't: In a former driveway alongside, hidden behind a side door only the regulars can find without asking, is Harvard Square's only beer garden (and one of the few in greater Boston), open when the weather's nice, with a separate bar, tables, and food. Okay, it's tightly packed, the menu is the same as the rest of dive-y Charlies, and the service is slow, but the beer, the fresh air, and the company of hipsters more than compensate. Pech
also run the Red House just behind Charlies,
which is how they can get away with having a
noisy beer garden in the space between.
Shhh who knew
