Monsters of Folk

A coming together of some of Boston's top musicians

Session Americana

S

ession Americana is made up of six musicians who have played or recorded with dozens of other local bands and artists, but in their own group they dig up the dirt on four decades of acoustic, foot-stomping red, white, and blue folk, roots, and country. The name of the band may give you a broad sense of the sound, but north-of-the-border transplants like Robbie Robertson and Neil Young will narrow it down for you. This local supergroup barges through the door with the swagger of an outlaw folk singer charged up by bluegrass muscle. Wallace

Shhhh! Singer and guitarist Sean Staples often plays in Tim Gearan’s band. Jimmy Fitting is a founding member of Treat Her Right. Drummer Billy Beard played in Face to Face, a popular '80s group.
Shhhh! Driving for Gold, Session Americana’s latest studio effort, was released in early 2009.
