Heavy Trip

Double guitars that are rife with soul and grit

Photo: Michael Spencer

N

ate Wilson Group is all about riffs. Sabbath and Zeppelin immediately come to mind when guitarists Adam Terrill and Johnny Trama take the strings out to play. The guitars are always leading you to a spiritual higher ground, but can turn on you in seconds with devilish, fuzz-laden passages. Underneath is a backbone rife with soul and grit, which creates a danceable groove that would be comfortable at any jamband festival. Warren Haynes conducts a similar cosmic beating with Gov’t Mule, but Wilson’s voice hits higher registers, dealing in psychedelic textures with a youthful lets-give-this-a-shot mentality. The trip ends in a happy place. That is, if you can surrender to the flow. Wallace

Shhhh! Wilson has played keys for two
successful jambands, Percy Hill and Assembly of Dust. He’ll also sit in with moe. on occasion.
