Cambridge Crooner
The busiest singer-songwriter north of the Charles
S
inger/songwriter Tim Gearan has been up and down Mass. Ave a few times. For 10 years he owned the Monday night second shift at Toad and, with weekly gigs at Atwoods Tavern in Cambridge and the Burren in Somerville, Gearan has the far side of the Charles on lockdown, delivering a sinister blend of backwoods, foot-stomping Americana juiced-up with some feel-good acoustic pop. Gearan’s voice hits with the force of an old locomotive poised to cross the muddy Mississippi before sunrise. His songs drip with the weathered spirit of a journeyman who has earned a decent living by lugging his guitar case from town to town. Lucky for us, the town he’s picked to make his home is ours.
