Old-fashioned Italian with great service
L
et's face it: We don't live in a part of the country known for its service. But there's a lively restaurant behind a nondescript facade in a suburban strip mall that's an exception to this rule. Café Luigi cooks up huge portions of good Italian dishes at a surprisingly low price, but what really makes this place a hidden gem is the consistently terrific service—motherly waitresses, friendly and attentive but not intrusive, who know the regulars (many from the nearby Hanscom Air Force Base) by name. The seafood is particularly good, and the setting is casual and comfortable, with checked plastic table coverings and comfortable booths.
Shhh who knew
Although it has an airfield and runways, Hanscom Air Force Base is the only U.S. air base whose main role isn't flying aircraft, but developing, researching, and acquiring electronic systems for them. It was named for Laurence G. Hanscom, a reporter for the Worcester Telegram-Gazette and pilot killed in flight in February 1941.
