Slow Food
A café that gives you time to stop and smell the coffee
C
entral Square is known for its exotic ethnic variety, but a taste of old Jerusalem? Yup, if you know where to find it. Andala Café offers Arabic and Turkish coffees, specialty teas, and tasty treats from the other side of the world in spacious surroundings with deep-colored walls, murals, and petite wooden tables. There are also more common drinks such as mochas and espressos. Modeled on old Jerusalem cafes, this is not the place for a quick cup of coffee, though. In fact, in true Middle East fashion, the owner asks that customers linger over the savory cuisine or socialize and talk. Canal
and served in silk sachets.
Plate (Msabaha), filled with diced tomatoes,
parsley, and jalapeno peppers.
Shhh who knew
Coffee originated in Africa and migrated north to Turkey in the 10th century, where it took hold so firmly that the Turkish word for breakfast, "kahvalti," means "before coffee."
