A
ntique store-turned-café/ice cream parlor Sugarbowl Café is a quaint little shop whose legacy evokes some old-fashioned touches, including a Boston favorite: Brigham’s ice cream. Owner Joe Baker, a onetime antiques dealer, also has a real soda fountain that serves up ice-cream sodas and lime Rickeys. If that doesn’t bring you back in time, the décor will—dark wood floors, stained-glass accents, wrought-iron tables with marble tops, and antique mirrors. Another great secret: the back lounge, with classic wingback chairs and couches to relax and enjoy a cup of coffee. Arpie
vanilla to banana. Among the most popular:
Almond Joy and pumpkin spice.
Shhh who knew
Brigham's ice cream was begun in Newton Highlands by Edward Brigham, who made it in the back room of his store and sold it for five cents a cone and 20 cents for a sundae.
