High Note
A weekly sing-along in a place you’d never think to look
O
vershadowed by what happens on the stages of the Theater District all around it, it’s the Jacob Wirth restaurant’s Friday Night Sing-Along that really deserves the spotlight. Venture to this piano bar and open up your complimentary songbook to experience what it is that keeps regulars returning week after week. Piano man Mel Stiller has become an institution here since he first tickled the ivories in 1988, and his repertoire has grown to include more than 500 oldies from the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s. The singing begins around 8, so make a reservation early in the week (large groups can book a table in the bar and lounge) to make sure you don’t miss any of your old favorites. Rineman
