ou know it's a great cheese and gourmet specialty store, but here's a secret about Formaggio Kitchen you didn't know: In the warm months, every Saturday, the employees at the Huron Village location roll a grill out to the sidewalk and transform the place into a barbecue joint, cooking up brisket, chicken, lamb and pork shoulder, and the Pearl in the Hole, a half-pound hot dog in a hollowed-out baguette. Shhhh! It's Italian for cheese.
Shhhh! Formaggio was the first retail store in America to have its own cheese-aging room, built out of a onetime office in the stone-walled basement. Julia Child attended the opening, and you can get a private tour if you ask.
