A second-generation chef cooks up great Italian
L
eave it to a restaurant near Kendall Square to be run by a guy whose degree is in architecture and construction management. Amelia's Trattoria, after all, is a neighbor to MIT. But Delio Susi, Jr., who named the place (and his daughter) for his late Italian-chef mother, has created a friendly restaurant that's a favorite with locals—the same three guys sit at the bar pretty much every happy hour—just off the beaten path of Kendall Square. His design training isn't the only thing that gives Amelia's a twist of class. So is the food, including vegetarian dishes like the Hooka panini. But the standouts are the gnocchi and the decidedly carnivore-friendly braised short-rib Bolognese. Jacobson
