They're not necessarily talking about the service, which is competent and usually friendly, but to the customers who look so pleased with themselves for passing up the Starbucks just across the street. As well they should. This shop, with its minimalist, hipster vibe in both décor and menu, offers a wide selection of beans, including from Papua New Guinea, Mexico, and Guatemala, most of them fair trade only. And if that's not worth the trip, the sleek Mirage Veloce espresso machine (above) certainly is. So is the attention to detail that extends to the design you'll find in the foam of your cappuccino. Those things and more attract an interesting crowd that lingers smugly over its strong brews. Herder
