How (and when) to get into the Beehive

The Beehive

T

he Beehive isn’t exactly unknown. Witness the lines to get in every night. The secret is when to arrive. Come by 8 p.m., just before the live music begins (there’s no cover) and you’re less likely to have to wait for a table. You can use the time to read the exhaustive list of champagnes and sparkling wines, the largest in New England, or order from the generous (and little-known) raw bar, with not only oysters and shrimp, but lobster and tartare. Then kick back and watch the rabble cool their heels behind the proverbial velvet rope. This is how the other half lives. Healy

Shhhh! Including Monday night jams.
There’s also a Sunday jazz brunch.
Shhhh! Champagne cocktails are a specialty,
including the Bee-Lini, mixed with apricot nectar.

Shhh who knew

The distinctive round brick building upstairs from the Beehive is the Cyclorama, built in 1884 to house the largest oil painting every exhibited in the United States: a diorama of the Civil War Battle of Gettysburg.
