hat is an eccles cake, you might ask? Stop by the Keltic Krust Bakery sometime and the employees (and the other customers) will be glad to fill you in. This inconspicuous European-style bakery serves up fresh pastries, Irish breads, sandwiches, and coffee in a friendly and inviting atmosphere where everyone knows everyone else’s name. Particularly decadent are the chocolate croissants, densely layered with a ring of chocolate backed into the middle, topped with still more chocolate and a drizzling of powdered sugar. The pastries are a perfect complement to the strong coffee. Burns
a sprinkling of sugar and finished with raisins.
sponge cake filled with whipped cream and raspberry preserves—and soda and potato bread.
Shhh who knew
The Celts lived not only in Ireland, but as far west as Asia and as far south as current-day Spain.
