Ice Man

Breaking the ice with Olympic hero Mike Eruzione

Mike Eruzione

T

here are few people more Boston than Mike Eruzione. The Winthrop native attended Boston University, captained the hockey team, and remains one of the school’s all-time leading scorers. In the 1980 Olympics, Eruzione had five assists and three goals, including the winning goal against the Soviet Union that sent the American team on to win the gold in what Sports Illustrated calls the greatest sports moment of the century.” Eruzione kept to his roots and still lives in Winthrop with his wife and kids. He shares some of the reasons he stuck around. Moravek

Shhhh! Eruzione now works at BU as director of development in the Athletics Department.
Shhhh! Eruzione went on Who Wants
to be a Millionaire
and won more than $100,000, which he gave to local charities
1.
The North End, for Prezza, Pagliuca, Limoncello, Tresca, and Fiore
2.
Santarpio’s in East Boston (if you can find it) for the best pizza around
3.
For seafood, the view at Anthony’s Pier 4, the variety at Legal Sea Foods, and Belle Isle Lobster and Seafood in Winthrop to buy it fresh
4.
There’s always a sports team in the hunt for a championship. Also, check out BU Hockey at Agganis Arena, the best college hockey rink in the country.
5.
My hometown of Winthrop. Walk around Deer Island and see Boston’s ocean views, and eat at great little restaurants (I hang at Paesan’s).
