Top Dog
A hot-dog stand you either like or you’re crazy
E
very hot dog served at Dinghy Dogs comes with a guarantee, which reads, in part: “If you don’t agree that Dinghy Dogs are the best hot dogs on Martha’s Vineyard and the world, we will think you’re nuts.” Not exactly quality assurance, but that kind of confidence goes into every hot dog Dinghy Dogs serves. It’s confidence that comes directly from the owner, Brian Langhammer—that's him in the picture—who opened the Oak Bluffs stand because he was appalled at what passed for a hot dog on this hoity-toity island. As the self-proclaimed hot-dog king of Martha’s Vineyard, Langhammer is just as likely to whip out his ukulele and bust into song as he is to make you something to eat. But when he does start cooking, you'll like the result. Or else you're nuts. Skidmore
to work at least two jobs, Langhammer also hosts
a program called Swampland, which he describes
as an indie-rock dance party, on WMVY.
Shhh who knew
Between Memorial Day and Labor Day, Americans eat seven billion hot dogs, which means that 818 hot dogs are consumed every second of the summer.
Summers, daily, 10 a.m.-ish through 9 p.m.-ish
