Sand Bar

A chic bar right on the bay

LiBAYtion at the Wequassett Inn

O

nce you've found your way to the beachside bar at the Wequassett Inn and ordered a signature Lemon Booberry Martini, the crowds and traffic of the Cape will drift away into distant memory. Though it's nicely situated in the guests' pool area and patio on Pleasant Bay, the open-air bar, called (cleverly) LiBAYtion, is open to the public (though few members of the public appear to know this). It's the closest you can get to staying at one of Cape Cod's best hotels without having to pay the room rate. You can order lunch, dinner, and munchies at the bar from the resorts Outer Bar & Grille, and live music accompanies the sunsets. Hey, you might as well just stay all day. Bring sunscreen!

Shhhh! It's in the shape of what's called
a pergola, a sort of columnaded pagoda.
Shhhh! Rooms here top out at
more than $3,000 a night in high season.

Shhh who knew

Squanto, the famous guide to the Pilgrims, is reputed to be buried at Pleasant Bay.
