here do the locals go to escape on a peninsula whose major industry is tourism? To the Yardarm, a great dive-y bar just outside of downtown Orleans that's popular with fishermen, lawyers from the nearby district court, and other locals glad to offer advice and conversation to visitors over a beer or some basic pub grub, including decent chowder.

The tanker Pendleton broke in two so quickly in the blizzard of February 18, 1952, it barely had time to send a rescue call. The 36-foot Coast Guard Rescue Boat 36500 with a crew of four braved 60-foot seas and saved 32 of the 33 men clinging to the hull. Today Boat 36500 can be seen moored at Rock Harbor from June through September.
