ust outside downtown Vineyard Haven, and easy to miss, is a bakery with its own farm to produce the organic eggs and other ingredients used in the likes of Irish soda bread, a veggie stir fry, scones, and muffins. But the real secret of the Scottish Bakehouse is the brownies, melt-in-your-mouth chocolatey and rich, and the almond croissants, which are so good that a customer wrote a song about them. Even the sandwiches are made from local ingredients, including a lamb burger. The Bakehouse Farm out back is open to the public, too, selling vegetables, herbs, and cut flowers from a self-serve stand on the honor system.
